Compatibility check
This is a quick guide based on the model name. The definite check is in your phone settings, see below.
Most phones from 2019 and later support eSIM. Two things can still stop it from working: a carrier lock, or a model sold in a region without eSIM.
Check it in your settings
- Any phone: dial *#06#. If you see an EID number, your phone supports eSIM.
- iPhone: Settings, General, About. Scroll down. If you see "Digital SIM" or an EID, it works.
- Samsung: Settings, Connections, SIM manager. Look for "Add eSIM".
- Google Pixel: Settings, Network and internet, SIMs. Look for "Download a SIM instead".
Carrier lock
If you bought your phone on a contract, it may only accept SIMs from that carrier. iPhone: Settings, General, About, Carrier Lock should say "No SIM restrictions". If it does not, ask your carrier to unlock it before you travel.
Phones that often do not work
- iPhones bought in mainland China, Hong Kong or Macau (most have two physical SIM slots and no eSIM).
- iPhone X and older, iPhone SE (first generation).
- Samsung Galaxy S10 and older, and many budget models.
- Phones repaired with non-original parts can lose eSIM support.
Not sure?
Email support@arrivalsim.com with your exact model before you buy. If you bought a plan and it turns out your phone cannot install it, you get a full refund as long as the eSIM was not installed.
